i'm struggling to get your point Glen. we spent a bundle in the summer and looked to spend a bit more in january but couldnt.
Sam has been backed massively in the market every year.

You're a bit dim, Rodent, so I'll spell it out for you.

We were unable to sign players because of our wage limit set by FFP.

We were unable to free up space on our wage budget because, we couldn't move any on.

We couldn't move any on because we paid £10m and 30k a week for absolute shit like Matt JARVIS.

Is there anything yu aren't clear on?

Yeah I agree but only if we could get players out of the door too. That's why they cancelled Morrson's contract, that's why they touted Jarvis and tried to let Cole go to WBA.

The Betway deal helped, the new Boleyn bar helped but we still had to reduce the wage bill.

Re: This is the most important thing you will read this year.... (or not. bfs love in)
Glen:

- we did release/loan out players
- we did sign a new commercial deal

hence there was budget tp be used, hence we tried (and failed) to get players in.

The quote was from Oct 2014 and he was talking about FFP and the affect it would have in the coming January window and also the summer after that - can't you read that part or something?

Re: This is the most important thing you will read this year.... (or not. bfs love in)
Why would we have wanted to sell the players we signed in the summer in the January window?

We have tried and failed to offload a variety of players in the last couple of years.

Before the summer? He said it in October and he was talking about January 2015 (last month)

“we have a young bright squad, we have the opportunity for Koeman to set up a development organisation how he likes (as we have none at the moment) and have the control that few managers have, we have supportive owners prepared to spend, who have got the club on an even financial keel.”

Sounds brilliant ajc123. I’m sure Koeman will be desperate to leave little Southampton now for us …

What complete and utter bollox.

All that quote shows is how bad our transfer policy was before this summer, and why our net spend is so high. Sullivan is quite pointed in saying that we are unabl;e to shift anyone.

Hardly surprising, is it

What does that quote prove? Everybody is in the same boat. You said we are not big spenders so Sam hasn't had a budget. That was a lie.

"We cannot go above the wage limit under the Financial Fair Play rules, so even if we want to sign players in January, we cannot sign someone unless someone leaves as those are the rules. There might be a deal that is too good to refuse that we can do if we’ve done a new commercial deal. There is an exception to every rule but we’re not looking to sign five loan players that cost us £5-6 million like last season. We had to do that last season as we were such a small squad under such pressure – we had to get some cover in and it kept us up. We will always invest where we can and we’ll look to improve again next summer but I don’t want to give any figures yet. Just to reiterate, though, if we wanted to put money in we can’t because you’re restrained by your wages budget unless you have new commercial income.”

David Sullivan (October 2014)

Re: This is the most important thing you will read this year.... (or not. bfs love in)
You're just digging yourself a deeper hole. Why would anyone want to take over after Allardyce? The potential should be there and it is, you are just being extremely negative - we have the OS, we have a young bright squad, we have the opportunity for Koeman to set up a development organisation how he likes (as we have none at the moment) and have the control that few managers have, we have supportive owners prepared to spend, who have got the club on an even financial keel. And we are a much bigger club than Soton.
The only negatives are the remnants of Allardyce that he would have to clear out.

average £16m net spend per season............ and one of those was in the championship??

Re: This is the most important thing you will read this year.... (or not. bfs love in)
ajc - if you shorten that to the period since the FFP rules came into force, which in fairness is probably the point at which NET spend became the more important issue in terms of investment in players, we're comfortably in the top 4.

Re: This is the most important thing you will read this year.... (or not. bfs love in)
We've been consistently high spenders for about four years now. One of the reasons for that is that we've brought in players whose price hasnt increased. BFS can be charged with bringing in the likes of Nolan, Maiga and Jarvis who have no resale value.

It isn't at the moment is it? They have money, we don't. They are flying in the league, we aren't. He has the support from the owners, things are going brilliantly. They have a fantastic new training complex and a reasonable stadium. They wouldn't let him go and if they did we would have to pay for him. Tell me why would he come to us? Seriously tell me?

We're 6th in terms of spend over the past 5 years with only Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal in front.

More bullshit from Rodent.

Sam has had a budget that the likes of Soton, swansea, newcastle, palace, villa etc etc could only dream of.
i would hazard a guess that only chelsea, city, man utd, arsenal, spurs and liverpool can/have spent more and pay more in wages.

Ok. He's never had a huge budget. We are not amongst the top net spenders during his time at the club.

It's all lies.
